Children learn in many ways. School activities encourage fun while learning and promotes important social skills.  Some of the excitement Madison has to offer includes:

Band:  Beginning in 5th grade, students are given an opportunity to try out the various instruments and then choose if they'd like to join band.

Girls in grades 3-4 can join the Madison Basketball team to learn the basics of playing the game during a 1 1/2 month class held bi-weekly after school which concludes with a tournament against the other MPSD elementary teams. Boys and girls in grade 5 also have a program during March Madness, the Annual Student vs. Staff Basketball Game.

BINGO Night: This is an annual evening event for the whole family! Participants are asked to bring a canned good to donate. In return, you will earn an extra “free Space” on your card! There are no losers on this night- Everyone wins a prize!

Book-for-a-Buck: Several times a year, volunteers will be in the gym at lunch time selling new and gently-used books to students for $1.00 each. The books are provided through the Madison PTO and through donations. We encourage every student to take advantage of this great opportunity to get books of their own!

D.A.R.E.:  Students in 5th Grade participate in the Drug Abuse Resistance Education program which is taught by an officer from the Manitowoc Police Department.  The 10 week program offered in fall teaches students how to resist pressures which may influence them to experiment with alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs.  The program also assists students in problem solving, being good citizens, and making smart decisions.  At the conclusion of the program, students receive a certificate at a D.A.R.E. Graduation Ceremony.  To learn more about the D.A.R.E. program, please click here.

Flag Football: The MPSD Football Youth League is for MPSD students in grades 3-5 to teach the basics of football.

Game Club: 5th grade students have the opportunity to try their hand at fun, mathematical strategy and logic/ reasoning games such as Cribbage, Rummy Cube, Mill, Connect4 and Q-bitz!

Grandparents and Grandfriends Day:  One of the most enjoyable and exciting days of spring is when students can showcase their school to their grandparents by inviting them to spend the morning with them at school.  This creates special memories that will last a lifetime.

Halloween Math Night: This annual, Halloween family event consists of fun math games and activities run by staff in the gymnasium. It is a spooktacular evening, bringing friends, family, food, and fun all together!

5th graders can choose to become instrumentalists by opting to join orchestra.

Positive Behavior Invention Support Program (PBIS):  This program rewards students with Cougar Cash that they can turn in for prizes when they are "caught" being respectful, responsible and safe.

This is offered to girls in grades 5 in the spring.  Practices are held after school for a 1 1/2 month period, with the girls learning the fundamentals of the game along with showing good sportsmanship.  The culmination of the practices is a tournament held on a Saturday with the girls competing against all the other Manitowoc Public elementary students.
